Winter Conference 2013

The 2013 ITLUS winter conference took place in the Clannard Court hotel on the 5th of December 2013, the theme of the conference was:

 

Adapting a Tillage Farm for “Tomorrow”

 

A large crowd attended.

 

The meeting was opened by ITLUS  President Mr Ivan Whitten before our forst speaker Dr Jimmy Bourke gave his presentation on the clallenges for research to add value to tillage margins.

Our next speaker was Matt Ryan, an agri consultant and former dairy programme manager with Teagasc, Matt spoke on the challenges and opportunities an expanding dairy sector will have on Irish agriculture.

Procedings then adjourned for our Annual General Meeting and lunch.

 

Our first speaker after lunch was Paud Evans from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Puud’s topic was the greening of the CAP and a more general look at the possible outcome of the CAP review which was in tits final phase.

Our last two speakers were farmers, Mark Holohan from Kildare and James O’Reilly from Kilkenny, who both spoke on their experiences of adapting a tillage farm for “tomorrow”
