Summer Field Meeting 2012

 

Summer Field Meeting, Thursday 7th June, Co Galway

This year ITLUS is to visit Galway for the first time. 

The day will start with breakfast from 7.30 am to 9.00 am. We have a very full itinerary so it is important that we keep to our time schedule for the benefit of all.

 

The schedule for the day is as follows.

 

 

07.30 – 09.00         Breakfast – Carlton Shearwater Hotel, Ballinasloe.

                           

 

09.00 – 10.30         Beechlawn Organic Farm, Ballinasloe – Padraig Fahy & Úna Ní Bhroin

                            Local Produce for Local People

A leading local grower and seller of organic fruit and vegetables, Beechlawn Organic Farm supplies home deliveries, Farmers’ Markets and wholesale customers with fresh, seasonal, local, organic produce.

 

11.00 – 13.00         Visit Lisbeg Farms, Eyrecourt Galway – Richard & Chris Bourns                 

Farming 1400 Acres: 460 tillage, 640 grassland, 300 managed forestry.

Finishing 2000 herd of beef per annum.

Lambing 1300 sheep.

80% of feed for stock is produced on farm with wheat, barley, maize, silage & beet.

Break crops of beans & OSR.

       

                            Bourns Sport Horses– Breeding and producing Show Jumpers, Eventers & Hunters, both      at Lisbeg & West Palm Beach, Florida.

 

13.30 – 15.00         Lunch at the Raheen Woods Hotel, Athenry

                            Brendan Heneghan, Teagasc Regional Manager, Galway/Clare – Agriculture in Galway

                           

15.00 – 16.30         C&F Green Energy
