Winter Conference 2012

The 2012 Itlus Winter Conference took place on Wedensday 5th December, the large attendance heard our contributors speak on a varied list of subjects.

 

President of ITLUS Mr Dick Fitzgerald opened the conference and introduced our firs speaker Eugene Ryan who gave the meeting a report on the foregin study tour to Denmark which had taken place in June .

Our first speakers of the conference were Andrew Booth, a Scottish farmer, James Brett of Brett Brothers Callan and Gerard McCutcheon of Teagasc who spoke about the issues arising from contract forward selling of crops, grain quality issues and managing volatility.

Our next speakers were Patrick O’Gorman and Audrey Crean who gave a joint presentation on the options for trading as a farm company,

The conference then broke for the AGM of ITLUS and lunch.

 

Our first session in the afternoon dealt with success stories in the Irish agri sector, Yasmin Allen of Ballymaloe country relish spoke about working in the food sector, Gareth Connoly of Redmills gave his company’s experience in trying to get established in the Chinees market, James Heaneu spoke about the growth and success of McHale in the farm machinery sector and Andrew Booth spoke about establishing and running a busy farm shop.

The 2012 Itlus conference finished with an address and question and answer session with economist Mr Colm McCarthy on the irish economy and its prospects in the future.
